Across Tanzania's sweeping savannahs, brave rangers rise each day to defend endangered wildlife from the threat of poaching. But they can't stand on the front lines alone.
Operation Serengeti Shield exists to strengthen Tanzania’s frontline defense against wildlife crime. In summer 2026, our team will travel through Tanzania accompanied by international advisory council member Shubert Mwarabu to personally deliver equipment and training to two key national agencies that safeguard Tanzania’s wildlife and wild spaces.
The agencies have requested the equipment below to support patrol operations, ranger safety, and wildlife crime evidence collection. When you purchase a piece of gear, you are placing it directly into the hands of a ranger serving on the ground in Tanzania.

Why It Matters
Rangers patrol at night when poachers are most active. A high-lumen tactical flashlight allows them to navigate safely, track movement, and identify threats in complete darkness. The strobe mode can temporarily disorient an approaching animal or human threat, giving the ranger critical seconds to create distance and get to safety.
Why They Matter
Binoculars allow rangers to scan landscapes from a safe distance, identifying wildlife movement, detecting suspicious activity, and monitoring potential threats without exposing themselves. Earlier detection helps prevent poaching before it happens.
Why It Matters
Rangers patrol for hours in extreme heat, often far from reliable water sources. A durable hydration pack allows them to carry and access water easily while keeping their hands free. Staying hydrated reduces fatigue, improves focus, and helps prevent heat-related illness during long patrols.
Why It Matters
A reliable GPS helps rangers navigate vast, remote areas where there are no clear landmarks and no cell service. It allows them to plan patrol routes, mark illegal activity, share exact locations, and return safely to base. Accurate location data helps them respond faster and stay safer in the field.
Why They Matter
Reliable communication is critical in the field. Handheld radios enable ranger teams to coordinate patrols, request immediate backup, and respond rapidly to wildlife crime across vast, remote protected areas where cell service is unavailable.

Why It Matters
A DSLR camera allows rangers to clearly document wildlife crime scenes, capture critical evidence, and record what they encounter on patrol. Strong, detailed images can mean the difference between a case being dismissed or successfully prosecuted. With proper memory storage, a tripod for stability, and a protective backpack, the equipment can be safely carried across rough terrain.
